History of CrissCross Creations
CrissCross Creations started in the summer of 2004 on top of Loon Mountain in New Hampshire. My family and I were attending a 4 day concert called Soulfest at the mountain. One of the fun things to do was to ride to the top of the mountain on the gondola. At the top, we walked around, enjoyed the scenery and found a little hut where they were selling walking sticks, bowls, and cross necklaces. I had always wanted a hand-made wooden cross-not the cheap imports made with 2 pieces of wood. So, I bought the one I liked the best, although several were interesting.

Back home, while I wore the cross almost every day, I was on the lookout for a little different cross. I was stymied in my efforts and could not come up with an acceptable internet solution. But, I have always liked working with my hands, though my precision leaves a little bit to be desired. So, I took some pine and began cutting, filing, drilling and sanding till I figured out I could make the kinds of crosses I like. Pine just didn’t make the grade so I went out and bought several exotic woods. The initial work turned out promising, so I tried a few more woods, made more and more crosses.

So today I make these crosses not just for the enjoyment of myself and my family. The crosses are much like all of us: none are perfect. There are similar elements to all of them, but no two are exactly alike. But they all present an image to remind us to go beyond our tastes, imperfections, and sometimes even beauty to the One who saves us. I try to make crosses in shapes and woods that will please many tastes. I hope you try one or more of my crosses. They are meant for you, to give to friends as gifts, to hang on the rear view mirror of your car, or to hang at your home or office desk.

Some customers have expressed their satisfaction with CrissCross Creations:

Dwight Crowther and CrissCross Creations have served our school family for over eight years by providing our students with one-of-a-kind crosses for our dynamic retreat program. The different styles of cross necklaces that are hand made with great care and love by CrissCross Creations, has helped Trinity High to perpetuate the love of Jesus throughout our hallways. Many friends of Trinity who happen to visit us during the school day have commented how great it is to see so many of the Trinity students with beautiful wood crosses around their necks. Thanks to Dwight and his love for our youth we would never look anywhere else but to CrissCross Creations for our necklace cross needs.

I have been using CrissCross Creations for a number of years for our Mission’s Confirmation retreat. The candidates received a blessed cross during Mass, and were encouraged to wear it until their Confirmation. The crosses are beautifully made, and very reasonably priced. I like ordering the Tau cross because it is not as well recognized as the other forms, and so requires some catechesis. This year I also wanted to try something extra, so I ordered “His People’s Cross Kit” for the retreat. The confirmands had a workshop on prayer during which they wrote a one word intention on a wooden piece and glued it to the cross.

I purchased my first cross from Dwight and CrissCross Creations ten years ago, while working at a junior-high school retreat called SnowCamps. I was amazed at the quality and beauty of the various crosses and the reasonable prices. I quickly became a repeat customer and have bought many different crosses throughout the years, both for my personal pleasure and to give away as gifts. For teenage campers and friends, I have found the necklaces and earrings to be perfect gifts. Personally, however, my favorite piece is the “His People’s Cross”, a wall cross made up of bits of wood pieces. I have given at least 20 of these crosses away as gifts – for weddings, anniversaries, house warming, Christmas and most recently to two of our parish priests who were leaving on reassignment. The thank you note from our pastor reads, “His People’s Cross is beautiful! A wonderful reminder of the many faces brought together by the Cross of Christ!” It is a special gift that has been cherished by many of my family and friends.
Not only is every piece beautiful and unique, but ordering them is also extremely easy. Items can be paid for using PayPal, and Dwight always ships my items quickly, making the entire process very convenient. Dwight has even been known to meet me to deliver a cross needed quickly or even to drop them off at my home! I have never been disappointed with any of my purchases and enjoy sharing their meaning and beauty with the people I love.
Thank you Dwight for the gift of your creativity and your hand made beautiful crosses!!
God Bless,
Jeanine Murray
